OCEANSIDE ---- Political advertisements have turned nasty in Oceanside as unions, developers and airport groups poured enough money into the City Council election in the last two weeks to buy a new Porsche or more than 51,000 elementary school lunches.Although there are seven candidates in Tuesday's election for two seats on the five-member council, most of the $90,000 in recently reported campaign contributions and several controversial newspaper advertisements have centered around incumbents Shari Mackin and Rocky Chavez, former Oceanside Chamber of Commerce President Jerry Kern, and retired educator George McNeil.

The other candidates are: George Barrante, a former planning commissioner; C.C. Sanders, a retired police officer; and Michael Lucas, a retired supervisor for the state government.

(NYSE: BE - News), one of the world's largest management and technology consulting firms, announced today that it has reached an agreement in principle with holders of a majority of each of the Company's 2.50% Series A Convertible Subordinated Debentures due 2024 (CUSIP No. 074002AA4) (the "Series A Debentures") and 2.75% Series B Convertible Subordinated Debentures due 2024 (CUSIP No. 074002AB2) (the "Series B Debentures"). The agreement, among other things, contains waivers through October 31, 2008 to the covenants relating to the Company's Securities and Exchange Commission ("SEC") reporting requirements and rescinds any acceleration related to the Company's failure to file such SEC reports.

Chahbar now taking credit for tough ban on pesticides

In this term of city council, Ab Chahbar voted a dozen or so times on pesticides, almost always siding with those opposed to a hard-hitting ban -- until the very last vote.

Chahbar wasn't the only council member to change his position the night the ban was passed June 12 -- so too did councillors Cheryl Miller and Fred Tranquilli and controller Gord Hume, who announced he'd changed his mind after considerable research.

But among the converts, Chahbar alone took credit for the ban in response to a questionnaire distributed by three Londoners who want a more progressive council.

Chahbar wrote he supported the ban and even moved for one with no exceptions. Both statements are true, but neither address his full voting record, say the Londoners who analysed voting records.
