Oceanside council advertisements take negative turn OCEANSIDE ---- Political advertisements have turned nasty in Oceanside as unions, developers and airport groups poured enough money into the City Council election in the last two weeks to buy a new Porsche or more than 51,000 elementary school lunches.Although there are seven candidates in Tuesday's election for two seats on the five-member council, most of the $90,000 in recently reported campaign contributions and several controversial newspaper advertisements have centered around incumbents Shari Mackin and Rocky Chavez, former Oceanside Chamber of Commerce President Jerry Kern, and retired educator George McNeil.
The other candidates are: George Barrante, a former planning commissioner; C.C. Sanders, a retired police officer; and Michael Lucas, a retired supervisor for the state government.
